OUR VISION

original_744427450_edited.jpg

Mauney PLLC represents plaintiffs facing important challenges.

Sometimes those plaintiffs are individuals. Sometimes those plaintiffs are companies.

One thing is for sure. Our clients need an attorney with experience and skill. Experience that allows the right choices to be made at the right time. Skill that allows the right choices to be made effectively. Filing the complaint that starts the action. At motion hearings. At trial. At arbitrations. At mediation. During each of these events, an effective litigator must match experience with skill. Outcomes depend on it.

Gary Mauney has built a career out of pathbreaking litigation. Against some of the biggest companies in the United States.

Gary successfully represented a group of Iraqi families against Blackwater after the Nisoor Square massacre in Baghdad. Gary successfully represented families after people died at the International Paper plant fire in Stuart, Virginia. Gary represented a hard-working father after a worksite accident left him paralyzed.

Gary  successfully represented one of the largest banks in the United States after it failed because the bank's auditor improperly accounted for the bank's loan transactions. Gary successfully challenged the takeover of a technology company by a venture capital firm in the Delaware Chancery Court. Gary successfully represented a NASDAQ company against its "Big Four" accountant after the Wall Street Journal questioned the accuracy of the company's financial statements. Gary successfully represented a senior team of Dell Computer executives against a hedge fund that sold  them fraudulent investments. Gary successfully represented the owners a charcoal company after they were sold an abusive and unlawful tax shelter investment.

In all likelihood, this will be the only time you select a plaintiff's attorney. It is an important choice, and one that should be based on information and performance. We typically work on a contingent fee basis. Very few law firms will take a business case on contingency. Please take a moment to review our results and experience. After you do, contact Mauney PLLC to schedule a free consultation.

ATTORNEYS

GARY V. MAUNEY, ESQ.

My name is Gary Mauney. I’m the founding partner of Mauney PLLC. I started this law firm because I wake up every day ready to go to bat for my clients. I only represent plaintiffs. I have been representing clients in personal injury cases and in complex business litigation for twenty-five years.

I spend my time as a lawyer working on a relatively small number of cases, where, typically, something really bad has happened. Each day, I advocate for clients who have been irreparably injured or who have had a family member killed by the negligence of a careless driver, an irresponsible nursing home, or a workplace accident.

I also focus my time and energy on litigation that involves business and financial disputes, securities and accounting fraud, and partnership or merger disputes. This means I often represent plaintiffs in cases against hedge funds, banks, and accounting firms. Some of this work also involves claims by whistleblowers, sometimes called qui tam relators, under the False Claims Act. Over the years, I have successfully represented individuals, families, and private and public companies in cases where millions of dollars were at issue.

I have a background in accounting and finance. Over the last dozen years, I have represented the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, investors, banks, and hedge funds. I helped pioneer breakthrough litigation against promoters of abusive tax shelters, such as BDO Seidman, PwC, KPMG, Deutsche Bank, and others. I am the former chair of the Abusive Tax Shelter Litigation Committee of the American Trial Lawyers Association. I have been featured in academic books and leading media outlets about the tax shelter industry. When victims of abusive tax shelters need an attorney with experience litigating cases against big accounting firms, law firms, and banks, I often get the call.

Most of my clients who are plaintiffs probably never needed a lawyer before they met me. Odds are that most plaintiffs will never need a lawyer again. This means you should choose wisely before you entrust your life-changing litigation to any lawyer or law firm.

But as often as not, plaintiffs end up selecting a lawyer to represent them without knowing much about them. If you have been defrauded out of millions, or you have lost a loved one because someone was negligent, I would encourage you to make an educated decision. So rather than just set out a list of my accomplishments, I’d like you to know a little more about my path as an advocate and attorney.
